Egypt & Nigeria breeze into quarters of the African Cup of Nations

Nigeria 3 – Mozambique 0 (African Cup of Nations, January 20, 2010) After Mozambique had the better side against Nigeria in the first 45, the Super Eagles sucker-punched their opponents with almost the final kick of the half as Peter Odemwingie slapped in a low left-footed from the edge of the box. Odemwingie struck two minutes into the second half to leave Mozambique needing a miracle, the Lokomotiv Moscow striker claiming his brace after being teed up by Yakubu. Obafemi Martins completed Nigeria’s best game of the competition to date netting a third late on.

Egypt 2 – Benin 0 (African Cup of Nations, January 20, 2010) Egypt struck early doors against minnows Benin, Ahmed El Mohamady finding the net after seven minutes from distance with a shot that appeared to be a miscued cross. The Pharaohs wrapped up their progression to the next stage after 23 minutes when Emad Motab scored his second of the tournament although it was questionable whether his shot actually crossed the line.

Poland 3 – Thailand 1 (Kings Cup, January 20, 2010) Kamil Glik put Poland ahead after a goalmouth scramble on 42 minutes. Patryk Malecki and Marcin Robak stretched their lead before Terdsak Chaiman scored a consolation for Thailand in stoppage time.
