South American Championships: Argentina salvage a draw with Colombia; Venezuela cruise past Peru

Guatemala 1 – Costa Rica 3 (UNCAF Nations Cup, January 25, 2009)

Argentina 2 – Colombia 2 (U20 South American Championships, January 25, 2009) Colombia took a surprise lead inside the first minute through Marco Perez. Perez then doubled their advantage, blasting the ball home from close range after Reina’s effort rocketed off the crossbar. Argentina made two first half substitutions, and Leandro Velasquez scored within seconds of coming on with a fierce drive. After the break Eduardo Salvio met an inch-perfect Velasquez cross with a fine header to even the score.

Peru 1 – Venezuela 3 (U20 South American Championships, January 25, 2009) Angelo Pena put the Venezuelans in the lead on 21 minutes and Pablo Camacho doubled the advantage seven minutes after the break. Juan Barros pulled a goal back for Peru, but Jonathan Del Valle’s late penalty sealed the win.
