Hannover, Stuttgart, Wolfsburg & Werder win their Bundesliga opener; Augsburg draw 2-2 with Freiburg

Hannover 2 – Hoffenheim 1 (Bundesliga, August 6, 2011) Jan Schlaudraff gave Hannover a 1-nil lead against Hoffenheim after 15 minutes with a quick-thinking free-kick. The lead lasted just a few minutes before Sejad Salihovic equalised with a penalty, but Hannover retook the lead on the half hour when Mohammed Abdellaoue scored with another spot-kick.

Stuttgart 3 – Schalke 0 (Bundesliga, August 6, 2011) Stuttgart broke the ice against Schalke when Cacau steered in a close range header from a corner. Just before the hour Martin Harnik headed the hosts 2-up from a free-kick. Japanese international striker Shinji Okazaki sealed the win with a quality curler in the final minute of regulation time.

Cologne 0 – Wolfsburg 3 (Bundesliga, August 6, 2011) Wolfsburg ignored all their summer problems to take the lead at Cologne courtesy of a goal from Patrick Helmes. Die Wolves finished the game strongly with late goals from Marcel Schafer and Patrick Helmes.

Augsburg 2 – Freiburg 2 (Bundesliga, August 6, 2011) Freiburg got their heads in front thanks to a Papiss Demba Cisse strike at the start of the second half, but newbies Augsburg hit back instantly through Sascha Molders’ header. Just two minutes later Freiburg were again back ahead, the hosts taking the lead through a well-placed header from Cedrick Makiadi. Nine minutes from time Sascha Molders bagged his second equaliser for Augsburg to set up a grandstand finish.

Werder Bremen 2 – Kaiserslautern 0 (Bundesliga, August 6, 2011) Werder’s maligned striker Markus Rosenberg got the home fans on their feet on the hour when he pierced the Kaiserslautern net. Bremen sowed up the points thanks to a Markus Rosenberg header te minutes from time.

Hertha Berlin 0 – Hannover 1 (Bundesliga, August 6, 2011) Tomas Pekhart won the match with a near post finish on 80 minutes.
