Bundesliga goals: Bremen edge Hertha in 5-goal thriller; Guerrero leads Hamburg over Cologne

Hertha Berlin 2 – Werder Bremen 3 (Bundesliga, August 30, 2009) After a goalless first half Werder’s new sensation Mesut Ozil raced through the centre to complete a swift Bremen counter-attack. Tim Borowski doubled the visitors’ lead before Lakasz Piszczek pulled Herta back in the game with 13 minutes remaining. There was no big comeback though as Naldo killed the match adding a third for Werder. Patrick Ebert netted a late consolation for Berlin.

Hamburg 3 – Cologne 1 (Bundesliga, August 30, 2009) Clumsy defending from Cologne gifted Jose Paolo Guerrero a 17th minute opener. Guerrero hit a low shot in the 66th minute to double Hamburg’s lead, only for Cologne to a get a sniff of a comeback when Adil Chihi found the net with an outrageous 30-yarder into the top corner. Those hopes were extinguished by a late penalty from Per Trochowski.
