Bremen all but end Hamburg hopes for Bundesliga title; Gladbach stun Schalke with a late win

Werder Bremen 2 – Hamburg 0 (Bundesliga, May 10, 2009) Sick of the sight of each other, Werder met Hamburg for the third time in a just over week and it was the hosts who struck first as Hugo Almeida started and finished a move to score after 34 minutes. Werder ripped through the Hamburg defence early in the second half, Hugo Almeida profitting with his second of the game.

Monchengladbach 1 – Schalke 0 (Bundesliga, May 10, 2009) Israeli Roberto Colautti was the hero for Gladbach, meanwhile, scoring in the final minute to secure a 1-0 success against Schalke that lifted the club up to 15th. Gladbach had spurned an earlier chance to take the lead when Marko Marin failed to beat Manuel Neuer with a penalty midway through the first half.
