Gamba Osaka win the Japanese cup after Endo’s masterclass destroyed Nagoya

Gamba Osaka 4 – Nagoya Grampus Eight 1 (Emperor’s Cup Final, January 1, 2010) On this performance it wont take long for one of the big European giants to move in for Japanese superstar Yasuhito Endo as the midfielder netted a brace and set up a third to steer Gamba to cup victory. Brazilian striker Lucas opened the scoring only six minutes into the first half after a quick passing move started by Endo on the left. Nagoya drew level when Tamada sent a long ball into the Osaka area, where Josh Kennedy provided a perfect cross for Naoshi Nakamura to head home. In the 77th minute Endo dribbled to the edge of the area on the counter-attack and fired a left-footer to regain the lead. He then exchanged passes with Takahiro Futagawa, who made it 3-1 in the 85th minute before Endo put the game beyond Nagoya’s reach in injury time.

Central Coast Mariners 0 – Wellington Pheonix 2 (A League, December 31, 2009) Paul Ifil, the former Millwall, Sheffield United and Crystal Palace striker, scored both goals in the second half, the first from the penalty spot.
