Friday night U21 goals: England edge Wales in five goal thriller

Wales U21 2 – England U21 3 (First-leg, Euro 2009 qualifier, October 10, 2008) Simon Church opened the scoring for Wales following a mix-up in the England backline, before England hit back with goals from David Wheater and Adam Johnson. But Church levelled before the break with an excellent finish before Gabi Agbonlahor cheekily flicked home England’s winner in the second half.

Germany U21 1 – France U21 1 (First-leg, Euro 2009 qualifier, October 10, 2008) Ashkan Dejagah put Ze Germans in front with a fine left-footed strike on 14 minutes but Portsmouth centre back Younes Kaboul levelled for Les Bleus, to put them slightly in the ascendancy going into the second leg.

Turkey U21 1 – Belarus U21 0 (First-leg, Euro 2009 qualifier, October 10, 2008) In-form Buraspor striker Sercan Yildrim scored the only goal in the tenth minute.

Austria U21 2 – Finland U21 1 (First-leg, Euro 2009 qualifier, October 10, 2008) The Austrians raced into a 2-0 lead with goals from Christoph Saurer and Florian Klein inside 13 minutes, but Finland came back into the game midway through the second half through Mehmet Hetemaj.
