Marseille win Ligue 1; Lyon beat Auxerre; Lille close in on the Champs League; PSG & Bordeaux held in draws

Marseille 3 – Rennes 1 (Ligue 1, May 5, 2010) A stunning 30-yard free-kick from Gabriel Heinze put champions elect Marseille in front at home against Rennes. Rennes weren’t behind for long as Jimmy Briand scored a diving header after 38 minutes. Didier Deschamps’ side kept their cool to win with goals by captain Mamadou Niang and midfielder Lucho Gonzalez to spark joyous scenes of celebrations at the Stade Velodrome as OM claimed their first league title since 1992.

Lyon 2 – Auxerre 1 (Ligue 1, May 5, 2010) Auxerre’s serial-goalscorer Ireneusz Jelen took advantage off a woefully underhit backpass to fire the visitors into the lead at Lyon. Lisandro Lopez pulled the hosts level on the stroke of halftime with a penalty. Miralem Pjanic’s 85th minute won the match for Lyon.

Toulouse 0 – Lille 2 (Ligue 1, May 5, 2010) Lille boosted their chance of a Champions League spot with a 2-0 success at Toulouse. Goals from Yohan Cabaye (34) and Ludovic Obraniak (48) were enough to give Lille the points and send them into second spot.

PSG 2 – Valenciennes 2 (Ligue 1, May 5, 2010) Mevlut Erding fired PSG in front on the half hour, but Gaetan Bong replied for Valenciennes just before the hour. Mateja Kezman looked to have won it for PSG with his goal in the final minute, but Fahid Ben Khalfallah popped up with an equaliser two minutes into injury-time.

Nice 1 – Bordeaux 1 (Ligue 1, May 5, 2010) Bordeaux are in danger of missing out on next season’s Champions League after being held to a 1-1 draw away to Nice. Emersen Fae gave Nice the lead on 26 minutes, but last season’s champions drew level seven minutes later thanks to a superb free-kick from Wendel.
