Marseille drop points at home, while Lyon slump to crushing defeat at Valenciennes

Valenciennes 2 – Lyon 0 (Ligue 1, May 2, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) Lyon were on their knees at halftime at Valenciennes, Johan Audel took advantage of a sleepy Boumsong to get in on goal and produce a fine left-footed finish after 24 minutes, before Audel doubled his tally four minutes later.

Marseille 2 – Toulouse 2 (Ligue 1, May 2, 2009) The league’s top scorer Andre-Pierre Gignac (first and second) took his tally this season to 21 goals by twice putting visitors Toulouse ahead after the interval. But two deflected efforts by Mamadou Niang (first and second) helped OM draw level, to extend their Ligue 1 lead to three points.

Monaco 0 – Auxerre 1 (Ligue 1, May 2, 2009) Thomas Kahlenberg’s 26th minute goal was enough to earn Auxerre a 1-0 win at Monaco.

Lorient 3 – Lille 1 (Ligue 1, May 2, 2009) Yohan Cabaye gave Lille a dream start on six minutes but after the half-time break Lorient were a side transformed as goals from Michael Ciani, Rafik Saofi and Fabrice Abriel stole the spoils.

Caen 3 – Le Mans 1 (Ligue 1, May 2, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) Pablo Barzola, Nicolas Seube and Anthony Deroin were all on target for the home side, with Gregory Cerdan’s effort for Le Mans nothing more than a consolation.

St. Etienne 0 – Nancy 0 (Ligue 1, May 2, 2009) St. Etienne could not be separated from Nancy in a goalless stalemate as they slipped to second bottom in the league.

Grenoble 0 – Nice 0 (Ligue 1, May 2, 2009)
