Lille stay top; PSG move 2nd; Lyon lose at Valenciennes; Caen win 6-pointer over Auxerre

Lille 1 – Lens 0 (Ligue 1, January 29, 2011) Midway through the second half a quick fire-passing move was expertly flicked into the net by Tulio De Melo to send Lille four points clear of PSG in Ligue 1.

Caen 2 – Auxerre 0 (Ligue 1, January 29, 2011) On the hour mark, Benjamin Nivet gave the visiting side the advantage by clattering home a terrific shot after Auxerre had failed to clear their lines. Three minutes from time an Auxerre defensive mix-up gave the home side their second of the evening, with Kandia Traore pouncing to score.

Arles-Avignon 1 – PSG 2 (Ligue 1, January 29, 2011) Mevlut Erding silenced the home crowd in the first half  by going through on goal and finishing over Cyrille Merville with a deft clip. Soon after the interval les Parisiens would move two goals clear, a lovely interchange between Erding and Ludovic Giuly ended with the veteran setting up his Turkish team-mate to smash a volley into the net. Deme N’Diaye was left completely free in the box to volley home an accurate centre from Thomas Ayasse as Arles tried to come back, but no equaliser transpired.

Saint-Etienne 2 – Toulouse 1 (Ligue 1, January 29, 2011) St Etienne leapfrogged Toulouse into sixth place as Bakary Sako’s first-half brace helped them to a 2-1 victory at the Stade Geoffroy Guichard. It took a stunning long-range drive from Franck Tabanou to bring the visitors back into the game, the young left-winger smashing an extremely powerful drive past Jeremie Janot and into the home goal soon after the pause.

Sochaux 5 – Rennes 1 (Ligue 1, January 29, 2011) Goals from Modibo Maiga, Marvin Martin and Brown Ideye had Sochaux 3-0 up before Rennes registered through Abdoulrazak Boukari. But Nicolas Douchez was then sent off for bringing down Maiga, forcing Alexander Tettey to go in goal, with his first task picking Ryad Boudebouz’s penalty out of the net.

Valenciennes 2 – Lyon 1 (Ligue 1, January 29, 2011) A Milan Bisevac penalty and a second from Gregory Pujol were enough to give the hosts three points despite Michel Bastos’ 70th minute strike for Lyon.

Lorient 2 – Brest 0 (Ligue 1, January 29, 2011) Kevin Gameiro scored both goals as Lorient defeated derby rivals Brest 2-0 to go level with their Ligue 1 opponents in the standings.
