Bordeaux 4 – Nice 0 (Ligue 1, August 23, 2009) Brazilian striker Jussie headed Bordeaux into the lead at Nice. Talisman Yoann Gourcuff doubled the lead in clumsy circumstances after having broken through the Nice defence, and Gourcuff put the game to bed 20 minutes from time with Bordeaux’s third. Alou Diarra put the icing on the cake with a fourth.

Grenoble 1 – Lens 2 (Ligue 1, August 23, 2009) Lens took the lead at Grenoble with one of the strikes of the weekend from Eduardo, the striker collected a counter-attack on the halfway-line, spun past his markers and took the ball all the way into the box where he produced a deft finish. The lead was only briefly held, Danijel Ljuboja sweeping Grenoble level following a corner. Newly-promoted Lens claim a superb three points on the road thanks to Razak Boukari’s second half header.
