Late Niang winner lifts Marseille past St Etienne; Sakho gaffe dumps PSG out the cup; Lyon cruise through; Monaco thump Montpellier in Ligue 1

St Etienne 2 – Marseille 3 (Coupe De La Ligue, January 13, 2010) Marseille fell behind at St. Etienne when Bakary Sako slid home the opener for Les Verts. Brandao pulled OM level but the parity was short lived as Gonzalo Bergessio steered a free-kick home in a cluttered Marseille penalty area. Brandao pulled OM back into the game for a second time midway through the second half when the forward beat both the goalie and defender to a forward pass to give him an open goal that he gobbled up. Mamadou Niang won the encounter in the 90th minute with a slick finish to stun the home crowd.

Lyon 3 – Metz 0 (Coupe De La Ligue, January 13, 2010) (Longer highlights here.) Holding midfielder Jeremy Toulalan headed home a free-kick on the half hour to put Lyon in front. Metz had Christophe Marichez sent off in the 68th minute and Lyon exploited their extra numbers as Lisandro netted a late brace.

Guingamp 1 – PSG 0 (Coupe De La Ligue, January 13, 2010) Despite being down to 10 men when Mustapha Diallo saw red 13 minutes from time, Guingamp managed to see off the Paris giants thanks to a freak own goal from centre-half Mamadou Sakho who managed to slice the ball into his own net when trying to clear his lines.

Monaco 4 – Montpellier 0 (Ligue 1, January 13, 2010) Montpellier, the surprise package in Ligue 1 in the first half of the season, fell behind at Monaco in their first league match of 2010 as Sebastien Puygrenier headed a corner into the near post. A fine 20-yard drive from Lukman Haruna put Monaco 2-up in the 55th minute, Haruna bagged his second 10 minutes later to wrap up the points. Diego Perez hit a fourth at the death.
