Zenit catches up with Russia’s Premier League leaders; CSKA & Spartak win; Besiktas clinch European berth; Olympiakos & PAOK go clear in Greec

CSKA Moscow 3 – Tomsk 1 (Russian Premier League, May 2, 2010) Appalling goalkeeping from CSKA’s number one Igor Akinfeev, who totally screwed up punching the ball clear, allowed Aleksandr Kharitonov’s 15th minute shot to nestle in the net. CSKA won the match 17 minutes from time when striker Guilherme grabbed the crucial second, and Guilherme glossed the result with a third in injury time at the death.

Saturn 0 – Zenit St. Petersburg 1 (Russian Premier League, May 2, 2010) Zenit’s fine start to the season continued with their second win in succession, defender Nicolas Lombaerts was the hero for Spalletti’s men with an 88th minute winning header.

Sibir Novosibirsk 2 – Rostov 0 (Russian Premier League, May 2, 2010) Rock-bottom Sibir picked up their first win of the season with two second half goals, Aleksei Medvedev opened with a 58th minute header while Ivan Nagibin wrapped up the points two minutes from time.

Diyarbakirspor 1 – Besiktas 3 (Super Lig, May 2, 2010) Michael Fink’s opener for Besiktas was cancelled out by Fidjeu-Tazemeta minutes after the restart. The Super Eagles  were soon back on top through Cetin’s own goal and Rodrigo Tello’s late third.
