Feyenoord 4 – Roda 0 (Eredivisie, August 22, 2009) Feyenoord tore through Roda in the first half. Sekou Cisse opened after just four minutes and Jon Dahl Tomasson rose high to head in number two just after the half hour. Jonathan De Guzman closed out the half with a beautiful lob over the keeper. Late in the second half De Guzman netted his second beauty of the day to wrap up the win for Feyenoord.

Heerenveen 0 – AZ Alkmaar 2 (Eredivisie, August 22, 2009) AZ Alkmaar took the lead at Heerenveen when El Hamdaoui’s shot came off the post and the ball rebounded in off home keeper Martin Lejsal. Mounir El Hamdaoui wrapped up yet another win for the champions with a second midway through the second half.

PSV 3 – NAC Breda 1 (Eredivisie, August 22, 2009) Visiting captain Edwin de Graaf scored after eight minutes converting Tim Gilissen’s pass to put NAC in front but Danny Koevermans netted two second half goals and Ibrahim Afellay added another to give PSV the win.

Ajax 0 – Sparta 0 (Eredivisie, August 22, 2009) Despite dominating the match, Ajax lost further ground in the early stages of the Eredivisie title race when they were held to a draw by Sparta.

FC Twente 2 – RKC Waalwijk 1 (Eredivisie, August 22, 2009) Bryan Ruiz and Blaise Nkufo were on target in a one-sided first half to help Twente to their third win of the season. RKC, who have now failed to secure a single point in four league games, replied through Charlison Benschop in an otherwise dour second half.

Galatasaray 4 – Kayserispor 1 (Super Lig, August 23, 2009) Milan Baros scored a brace for Gala, while Elano opened his account for the Turks with a stunning half-volley from 25-yards.

Vitoria Guimaraes 0 – Benfica 1 (Superliga, August 23, 2009) New Brazilian attacker Ramires crashed home a 90th minute header from a free-kick as Benfica stole the points.

Zenit St. Petersburg 1 – Lokomotiv Moscow 1 (Russian Premier League, August 23, 2009) After a poor early fumble from the Zenit keeper, Wagner was on hand to fire Lokomotiv into a 9th minute lead. A diving header from Fitah Tekke brought Zenit level after the Lokomotiv right-back lost possession in a dangerous area.

AA Gent 4 – Lokeren 1 (Jupiler League, August 22, 2009) Adnan Custovic gave Gent a 5th minute lead before Stef Wils doubled their lead seven minutes into the second half. And, while the visitors pulled a goal back through Mario Carevic in the 59th minute, Custovic struck again with a penalty in the 73rd minute and Christophe Lepoint netted a fourth a minute from the end.

Sint-Truiden 2 – Roeselare 1 (Jupiler League, August 22, 2009) Struggling Roeselare took the lead when Samir El Gaaouiri netted in the 64th minute but the home side equalised five minutes later through Jonathan Wilmet and Ibrahima Sidibe struck the winner in the 77th minute.
