Ajax 5 – Sparta Rotterdam 2 (Eredivisie, November 9, 2008) Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored in the 16th off a Bakircioglu pass. Emanuelson set up Luis Suarez, who curler home aright foot beauty, five minutes later for the second. Evander Sno then made it 3-0 in the 42nd, four minutes after he replaced the injured Huntelaar. Bakircioglu scored Ajax’s fourth in the 74th before substitute Leonardo wrapped up the win in the 84th. Joshua John and Yuri Rose scored for Sparta in the 57th and 88th minutes.

AZ Alkmaar 3 – Twente 0 (Eredivisie, November 9, 2008) Alkmaar cruised to a win over Steve McClaren’s Twente, Brazilian Ari scoring twice while Mounir El Hamdaoui kept up his wonderful goal-scoring spree this season with the other.

Den Haag 0 – Heerenveen 1 (Eredivisie, November 9, 2008) Bonaventura Kalou broke the deadlock in the 86th minute to give Heerenveen their first win in five games.

Feyenoord 5 – Utrecht 2 (Eredivisie, November 8, 2008) Goals from Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Diego Biseswar (the first was an arrow in the top corner, the second came after a one-one-one) put the home side in command within the first 30 minutes, but Alje Schut and Mihai Nesu dragged Utrecht back into the game. Karim El Ahmadi and Roy Makaay erased all hopes of a comeback though with a strike each in stoppage time.

Willem II 2 – Roda 1 (Eredivisie, November 8, 2008) A Said Boutahar brace helped Willem II heap more pressure on Roda who remain second-bottom in the Eredivisie. Jeanvion Yulu-Matondo grabbed a consolation for Roda.


Sporting Lisbon 1- Porto 1 (Pens. 4-5) (Taca de Portugal, November 9, 2008) Liedson opened the scoring for Sporting after he headed home a poor clearance by Porto defender Fernando after 29 minutes. Porto levelled when Hulk raced between two defenders to beat keeper Rui Patricio with a powerful shot after 59 minutes. Extra time ended in deadlock before Porto goalkeeper Helton became the hero when he saved Abel’s penalty to knock the hosts out.
