Real Madrid 4 – LDU de Quito 2 (Peace Cup, July 28, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first goal for Real Madrid two minutes into the second half after he had won a penalty. Fellow new signing Esteban Granero claimed the second after a Ronaldo effort had been parried. Enrique Daniel Vera pulled a goal back for the Ecuadorian side only for Cristoph Metzelder to put Real two goals in front again. Late on Vera scored again but the two goal advantage was restored by in-demand striker Alvaro Negredo.
Juventus 3 – Seongnam 0 (Peace Cup, July 28, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) Juventus breezed past their Korean opponents with goals from Vincenzo Iaquinta, Diego on debut (a wonderful skill finish) and a Nicola Legrottaglie header.
Werder Bremen 2 – Valencia 2 (Friendly, July 28, 2009) Wedrer looked to be cruising after Hugo Almeida headed in a 29th minute opener and Mesut Ozil slotted home a peanlty three minutes later. Valencia’s second half fightback was lead by beanpole striker Nikola Zigic, the forward firing home a low drive on the hour before levelling with a header from a corner.
Koblenz 1 – Borussia Dortmund 1 (Friendly, July 28, 2009) Having signed from Colo Colo last weekend, Lucas Barrios marked his Borussia debut with a cute lob to hand his new side the lead. Hudec equalised for the hosts five minutes from time.
