Twente hold PSV to stay in pole; Terek stay top in Russia; Fenerbahce keep pace in Turkey; AIK held again; Young Boys extend lead

PSV 1 – FC Twente 1 (Eredivisie, March 20, 2010) Blaise N’Kufo, making his first start following injury, cancelled out Danny Koevermans’ opener for PSV to keep Steve McClaren’s men five points clear at the summit.

Heracles 3 – NAC Breda 0 (Eredivisie, March 20, 2010) Heracles’ impressive season continued as they destroyed NAC Breda 3-0 at the Polman Stadion. The Almelo side went above AZ Alkmaar, who have yet to play this weekend, by one point through goals by Bas Dost, Willy Overtoom and Everton.

Willem II 0 – FC Utrecht 3 (Eredivisie, March 20, 2010) Jacob Mulenga capitalised on a defensive error to put the visitors ahead in the 14th minute and second-half goals from Jan Wuytens and Alje Schut made the points safe.

Feyenoord 1 – Vitesse 1 (Eredivisie, March 20, 2010) Feyenoord’s match with Vitesse was abandoned at halftime due to heavy rain in Rotterdam. Ron Vlaar had fired the hosts into a 13th minute lead and Wiljan Pluim had netted a 45th minute equaliser.


Lokomotiv Moscow 3 – Samara 0 (Russian Premier League, March 20, 2010) Quick-fire second half penalties from Alexander Aliev and Dmitri Sychev put Lokomotiv firmly in control of the match, and Aliev completed a brilliant seven minutes cracking home a 30-yard free-kick.

Amkar Perm 1 – Anji Makhachkala 0 (Russian Premier League, March 20, 2010) After Shukurov saw red for Anji at the end of the first half, Amkar finally made their numerical advantage count 15 minutes from time when Ivan Cherenchikov bundled home a right wing cross at the back post.

Saturn 1 – Sibir Novosibirsk 1 (Russian Premier League, March 20, 2010) Aleksei Medvedev toe-poked a left wing cross on the stroke of halftime to give Sibir the advantage, but Alexei Ivanov bundled home Saturn’s equaliser midway through the second half to leave it honours-even.

Terek Grozny 1 – Rostov 1 (Russian Premier League, March 20, 2010) Terek Grozny top the fledgling table, level on four points with Spartak Nalchik, after being held to a 1-1 at home to Rostov. Mersudin Ahmetovic equalised for Rostov in the 80th minute after Shamil Asildarov had given the hosts a fifth-minute lead.


Fenerbahce 1 – Gaziantepspor 0 (Super Lig, March 20, 2010) Dani Guiza’s goal just after the hour sealed the points for Fener.

Manisaspor 1 – Buyuksehir 0 (Super Lig, March 20, 2010) Mehmet Guven was on target three minutes from time as Manisaspor moved three points clear of the drop zone with a 1-0 home victory over Istanbul Buyuksehir.

Diyarbakirspor 1 – Antalyaspor 0 (Super Lig, March 20, 2010) Diyarbakirspor moved out of the relegation zone on goal difference at the expense of Sivasspor courtesy of a 1-0 home triumph over 10-man Antalyaspor. Substitute Erhan Kucuk notched the only goal of the game 20 minutes from time after Sedat Agcay had been sent off for the visitors.


Zorya 0 – Shakhtar Donetsk 2 (Ukrainian Premier League, March 20, 2010) A tidy finish from Willian in the first half and a blinding free-kick from Dario Srna after the break earned Shakhtar the points.

Brommapojkarna 0 – AIK Stockholm 0 (Allsvenskan, March 20, 2010) Swedish champions AIK remain without a win in the current season after failing to score for the second week running at Brommapojkarna. Things could have ended even worse for AIK, who finished the match with nine players as Sebastian Eguren was red-carded in the 82nd minute and teammate Kenneth Pavey followed four minutes later.


Young Boys 4 – Grasshoppers 0 (Swiss Super League, March 20, 2010) Young Boys hammered third-placed Grasshoppers 4-0 to move seven points clear at the top of the Swiss Super League. Goals from Seydou Doumbia and Henri Bienvenu had the home side two up after 12 minutes and Doumbia added two more after the break to complete his hat-trick and the rout.
