Porto & Benfica win; AZ slip up as NAC close in on Europe; Goals from Greece & Turkey

Nacional 0 – FC Porto 4 (Liga Sagres, January 30, 2010) Porto’s bit-part winger Silvestre Varela fired the visitors into the lead at Nacional from the penalty spot after having won the spot-kick after Alex committed the foul and got himself sent off. Radamel Falcao doubled Porto’s lead after Varela then turned provider minutes before the break and Falcao bagged a third on the hour. Verela wrapped up the points rounding the keeper and a defender and scoring the fourth.

Benfica 3 – Guimaraes 1 (Liga Sagres, January 30, 2010) Pablo Aimar put the home side ahead on 17 minutes, Nuno Assis levelled things up at the break but Carlos Martins won the match with Benfica’s second on 50 minutes and then a third ten minutes later.


AZ Alkmaar 0 – Groningen 1 (Eredivisie, January 30, 2010) AZ Alkmaar missed the chance to move up to sixth in the table after slipping to a 1-0 home defeat to FC Groningen. Tim Mavatz struck the decisive goal ten minutes into the second half as Groningen stay in ninth.

NEC 1 – Sparta 0 (Eredivisie, January 30, 2010) Striker Saidi Ntibazonkiza struck a last-gasp winner as NEC Nijmegen claimed a crucial 1-0 win over Sparta.

ADO Den Haag 2 – Heerenveen 1 (Eredivisie, January 30, 2010)  Den Haag claimed a priceless 2-1 victory at home to Heerenveen. Former Sheffield Wednesday striker Gerald Sibon put Heerenveen ahead in the first half but the visitors then lost Darryl Janmaat to a second yellow card on the stroke of halftime. That gave the hosts the edge heading into the second half and Wesley Verhoek and Bogdan Milic hit back to secure victory.

NAC 2 – VVV Venlo 0 (Eredivisie, January 30, 2010) Patrick Zwaanswijk and Anthony Lurling were on the scoresheet as NAC Breda kept up the pressure on the top six with a 2-0 win over VVV Venlo.


Diyarbakirspor 1 – Trabzonspor 2 (Super Lig, January 30, 2010) Engin Baytar scored twice as the visitors triumphed, with Alhassan Weah on target for 13th-placed Diyarbakirspor, who suffered their eighth loss of the season.

Istanbul Buyuksehir 4 – Kasimpasa 2 (Super Lig, January 30, 2010)  Iskender Alin scored twice as Buyuksehir beat Kasimpasa 4-2. Herve Tum and Tevfik Kose were also on target as Buyuksehir came from two goals down after Kasimpasa scored through Sahin Aygunes and Murat Erdogan.


PAOK 1 – Atromitos 0 (Greek Super League, January 30, 2010) Substitute Thanassis Papazoglou scored a late goal to give PAOK a 1-0 win over Atromitos.

Iraklis 1 – Kavala 0 (Greek Super League, January 30, 2010) Iraklis are one place and one point above Giannina after a 1-0 victory at home to Kavala. Romanian forward Constantin Iacob grabbed the only goal.

Pas Giannina 2 – Larissa 0 (Greek Super League, January 30, 2010) Giannina leapfrogged Larissa and climbed out of the relegation zone with a 2-0 win over them today, inspired by Mirnes Sisic’s second-half brace.
