Macheda and Little Mickey steer Manchester United to successive Malaysian wins; Debutant Benzema edges Real past Shamrock Rovers; Chelsea beat Crawley

Malaysian Xl 0 – Manchester United 2 (Friendly, June 20, 2009) United took just 11 minutes to score against the Malaysian Xl, Federico Macheda in the right place to turn home a Fletcher cross. And two minutes later Little Mickey made it two in two since moving to the champions, Tosic’s left-wing cross caused havoc in the home defence as Michael Owen arrived on the scene to tuck home a sitter. Eight minutes from time Wayne Rooney forced the withdrawal of a Malaysian player after making an aggressive challenge for the ball in the middle of the pitch.

Shamrock Rovers 0 – Real Madrid 1 (Friendly, June 20, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) The Galacticos claimed a late win through a Karim Benzema goal two minutes from time in their first pre-season match. Cristiano Ronaldo failed to do much with a first-half free-kick before he was substituted at the break while at the other end Jerzy Dudek was forced into a couple of shots to save Real’s blushes.

Borussia Monchengladbach 0 – Panathinaikos 1 (Friendly, June 20, 2009) Summer signing Djibril Cisse headed home the only goal of the game with fifteen minutes left on the clock.

Crawley Town 1 – Chelsea reserves 2 (Friendly, June 18, 2009) Fabio Borini claimed a double for the Chelsea reserves, with a goal from Ben Smith sandwiched in between for the Conference side.
