Friendlies: Inter Milan held to a shock draw by UCLA; Wins for Marseille & Hoffenheim

UCLA 2 – Inter Milan 2 (Friendly, July 17, 2009) Against the odds UCLA took the lead on 39 minutes from their first corner of the contest, when Carasco headed a goal past the Inter keeper Belec, a lead which they held into the break. Jose Mourinho then opted to make some changes introducing Ibrahimovic, Diego Milito and Cristian Chivu, and the moves paid dividends as Marco Materazzi tapped in a goal from close range at the start of the second half. Inter then stole into the lead as a cross into the area from Mancini was met by the head of Dejan Stankovic. But the Americans refused to lie down, and just a few minutes later Griffin restored parity for UCLA as his header was too strong for Orlandoni in goal.

Marseille 1 – Ajaccio 0 (Friendly, July 17, 2009) Nigerian full back Taye Taiwo scored the only goal of the game in the 20th minute with a trademark left-footed belter.

Hoffenheim 1 – Panathinaikos 0 (Friendly, July 17, 2009) Vedad Ibisevic grabbed the winner to suggest that he will take over from where he left off before a serious injury last January.

Olhanense 2 – Anderlecht 1 (Friendly, July 17, 2009) All the goals arrived in an entertaining second half with Zequinha opening with a stunning 25-yarder that arched into the far top cormer. Biglia soon had the Belgians on a level-footing while Fabio met a Zequinha cross to complete the win for Olhanense.
