Feyenoord 2 – NEC 0 (Eredivisie, August 2, 2009) Jon Dahl Tomasson capitalised on a poor defensive header to round the keeper and fire Feyenoord in front at home to NEC. A penalty from Leroy Fer doubled the score.

Groningen 0 – Ajax 2 (Eredivisie, August 2, 2009) Miralem Sulejmani and Dennis Rommedahl were the goal scorers in either half for Martin Jol’s side.

PSV 3 – VVV Venlo 3 (Eredivisie, August 2, 2009) Nordin Amrabat and Ola Toivonen scored first-half goals to put PSV in control against Venlo but Achmed Ahahaoui and Keisuke Honda put the visitors level by the hour. Toivonen headed home his second eight minutes before time but three minutes later Ruben Schaken took advantage of sloppy defending by Dirk Marcelis and salvaged a draw.

Besiktas 0 – Fenerbahce 2 (Turkish Super Cup, August 2, 2009) Two goals from Brazilian striker Alex led Fener to victory of the reigning Turkish champions Besiktas.


IFK Gothenburg 2 – Hacken 2 (Allsvenskan, August 2, 2009) IFK rallied from a two-goal deficit at its home ground with goals from Hannes Stiller in the 86th minute and Thomas Olsson in the 90th.
