Everton edge Malaga; Real spank Toronto for five; Juventus sunk by the Yellow Submarine

Everton 2 – Malaga 1 (Friendly, August 7, 2009) Early goals from Louis Saha and Leon Osman put the Toffees 2-up, Jose Juan Luque cracking home a brilliant free-kick for Malaga minutes into the second half.

Toronto FC 1 – Real Madrid 5 (Friendly, August 7, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) Los Blancos, fielding new signings Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Xabi Alonso and Karim Benzema, sparkled against Toronto. Raul found the target twice (first and second) and Cristiano Ronaldo slotting home a perfect setup from Benzema to put Real 3-up before the interval. Karim Benzema and Arjen Robben were also on target in the second half while Gabe Gala saved the home side some blushes, stabbing home a loose ball after a save by keeper Jerzey Dudek.

Juventus 1 – Villarreal 4 (Friendly, August 7, 2009) Villarreal took the lead over Juventus just minutes before the interval as Santi Cazorla was allowed too much time to advance with the ball before the Spanish international cracked a superb strike past the keeper. (First half highlights here.) The Yellow Submarine doubled their lead in the 52nd minute when Nilmar headed home a loose ball at the far post. With 12 minutes on the clock Robert Pires added a third for Villarreal, Amauri got the Old Lady on the scoresheet, but a 90th minute fourth from Pires sealed the rout. (Second half highlights here.)
