Benfica beat Sunderland and Ajax draw with Atleti at the Amsterdam Tournament; Wins for Juve and LDU at the Peace Cup

Sunderland 0 – Benfica 2 (Amsterdam Tournament, July 24, 2009) An Oscar Cardozo penalty and a fierce drive from Maxi Pereira in the second half shot down the Black Cats.

Sevilla 1 – Juventus 2 (Peace Cup, July 24, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) Ciro Ferrara’s side went ahead in the 27th minute when Amauri got on the end of Alessandro Del Piero’s corner to power home a header from the edge of the six-yard box. A neat Jonathan Zebina pass gave Vincenzo Iaquinta possession in a dangerous position 25 yards out and he progressed to the edge of the box before firing a low shot past Andres Palop. Sebastien Squillaci scored for Sevilla heading in Jose Carlos’ corner with 10 minutes to go.

Ajax 3 – Atletico Madrid 3 (Amsterdam Tournament, July 24, 2009) Dario Cvitanich opened the scoring early on, but Simao and Sergio Aguero each netted before halftime to give their side the lead. Dennis Rommedahl restored parity twenty minutes from time, and although Maxi Rodriguez’s goal six minutes later appeared to have provided Atleti with the win, up stepped Luis Suarez to level it at the death.

Cologne 0 – Bayern Munich 2 (Friendly, July 24, 2009) A pacey Bayern counter-attack lead by Miroslav Klose was finished by a low Mario Gomez shot in the Cologne near post. Bastien Schweinsteiger wrapped up the win with a second half header.
