Manchester United 4 – AC Milan 0 (Agg. 7-2) (Champions League, March 10, 2010) (Longer highlights here and extended highlights here.) Who can stop the head of Wayne Rooney? Gary Neville took advantage of the oceans of space AC Milan afforded him in the 12th minute, and the full-back whipped a fine cross over to Rooney who guided his header past a flat-footed Abbiati. Fifty seconds into the second half and United killed the tie, Nani raced down the left and played a delightful through-ball to Wayne Rooney with the outside of his boot, and the number 10 bagged his second of the match. The Rossoneri began to become embarrassed just before the hour as Scholes all-too-easily threaded a pass into Park Ji-Sung into the box and the Korean arrowed his shot into the far corner. Milan’s humiliation was sealed three minutes from time when a static defence stood around as Darren Fletcher ghosted into the back to head home a Rafael cross.
Real Madrid 1 – Lyon 1 (Agg. 1-2) (Champions League, March 10, 2010) (Longer highlights here.) It took Real Madrid just five minutes to draw level on aggregate with Lyon, Guti played in Cristiano Ronaldo down the inside left channel and C-Ron found the gap between Lloris’ legs to chalk up his seventh goal of the competition. Real huffed and puffed as they tried to find a crucial second, but Lyon battled competitively in the second half and 15 minutes from time the Bernabau fell silent as Miralem Pjanic whacked home the visitors’ equaliser to leave Madrid needing to score another two goals to survive.
