VIDEO: Jovetic fires Fiorentina past Liverpool; Arsenal win late against Olympiakos; Barca beat Kiev

Fiorentina 2 – Liverpool 0 (Champions League, September 29, 2009) Teenager Steven Jovetic is rapidly becoming one of the hottest properties in European football. The Viola forward broke free of the square Liverpool back four and coolly fired home past Pepe Riena. In the 37th minute Jovetic struck again, the Reds failed to clear their lines under pressure and the young Montenegrin met Vargas’s fiercely hit cross to fire Fiorentina into a 2-goal lead. Arsenal 2 – Olympiakos 0 (Champions League, September 29, 2009) (Alternative highlights here.) Arsenal continually pressured the Olympiakos goal in the first half, Robin van Persie striking the bar, but the North Londoners failed to break the deadlock at the interval. Arsenal’s superiority finally meritted itself with a goal 12 minutes as Fabregas fed Eduardo who in turn picked out Van Persie, in the box and the Dutchman couldn’t miss from three yards. Five minutes from time Andrei Arshavin (offside?) grabbed the second to wrap up the points for the Gunners.

Barcelona 2 – Dynamo Kiev 0 (Champions League, September 29, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) The brilliant Leo Messi put Barca in the lead over Kiev midway through the first half, the forward cutting in from the right on his trusted left foot and finding the bottom corner with ease. Pedro Rodriguez sealed Barca’s win 15 minutes from time, the young striker controlling in the box and neatly passing the ball into the bottom corner.
