Celtic 1 – Rapid Vienna 1 (Europa League, October 1, 2009) The home fans were stunned in the third minute when Nikica Jelavic arrowed his finish past Boruc to put Rapid in front. Scott McDonald equalised following some pretty slack defending in the 21st minute.
Valencia 3 – Genoa 2 (Europa League, October 1, 2009) Sergio Floccari poked the Italians into the lead but goals early in the second half from David Silva and Nikola Zigic turned the match on its head. Housseine Kharja equalised for the Italians from the penalty spot only for David Villa to score from another penalty eight minutes from time.
Roma 2 – CSKA Sofia 0 (Europa League, October 1, 2009) First-half goals from Stefano Okaka Chuka and Simone Perrotta in a devastating three-minute spell were enough to give Claudio Ranieri’s men the three points.
