In Everton’s first attack after the restart they expose Sporting’s weak underbelly as Cahill challenged keeper Rui Patricio from a corner, the cross missed them both both striking an unmarked Sylvin Distin helplessly turned the ball in the net. But after coasting much of the match Everton shot themselves in the foot six minutes from time, Distin was the villain gifting possession to Leidson who he then brought down in the box and, after Distin saw red, Miguel Veloso converted from the spot.
