Champions League: Impressive Sparta beat Pana, Anderlecht smack five past Sivasspor

Sparta Prague 3 – Panathinaikos 1 (Champions League qualifier, July 28, 2009) Pana’s Champions League hopes are hanging by a thread, compounded by Djibril Cisse missing a first half penalty after Jan Holenda and Kamil Vacek had put the Czechs 2-up. Dimitris Salpigidis gave the Greeks a lifeline with a 66th minute goal, but Lubos Kalouda added a super third for Sparta at the death to leave Pana in big trouble of qualification.

Anderlecht 5 – Sivasspor 0 (Champions League qualifier, July 28, 2009) Tom De Sutter headed the hosts in front from a corner, Mbark Boussoufa firing home a left-footed second after 22 minutes. With the Turks all over the place Thomas Chatelle claimed number three before the break. More hopeless defending allowed De Sutter to notch number four in the second half, while Nicolas Frutos lobbed the keeper to virtually confirm Anderlecht progress in the Champions League.

FK Baku 0 – Levski Sofia 0 (Champions League qualifier, July 28, 2009) Bulgarian side Levski failed to get an away goal in the goalless draw with Azerbaijan champions Baku.

Bnei Yehuda 1 – Pacos Ferreira 0 (Europa League qualifier, July 28, 2009) Eliran Atar came in as a substitute in the 53rd minute and within a minute the striker had put the ball in the net.
