What now Wenger? Liverpool beat 10-man Arsenal as Gunners left broken & battered

Arsenal 0 – Liverpool 2 (Premier League, August 20, 2011) (Longer highlights & MOTD highlights.) After four minutes Andrey Arshavin had the Emirates moaning with a terrible shot following a corner. After 12 mminutes the Gunners fan had more to worry about as Laurent Koscielny went down with back spasms and was forced off the pitch for Miquel. Wojciech Szczesny was forced into a top stop to deny Andy Carroll’s header in the 20th minute. At the other end Emmanuel Frimpong forced Riena into a save, while Samir Nasri (on maybe his last Gunners outing) produced a sizzling run the had the Reds on the back foot. But Arsenal failed to score at the break, leaving Arsene Wenger frustrated. (First half highlights, Vermaelen highlights) After Pepe Riena had stopped a Van Persie shot at his near post, the Gunners were reduced to ten men in the 70th after Emmanuel Frimpong collected a second yellow for a bad tackle on Lucas. In the 78th the ten men fell behind in unfortunate circumstances as Aaron Ramsey scored a freak own goal from Miquel’s attempted clearance. With the Gunners dead and buried, a quick attack from Lucas and Meireles was simply finished by the supreme Luis Suarez.
