Liverpool XIÂ 4 – Everton XIÂ 1 (Jamie Carragher testimonial, September 5, 2010) 35,000 Liverpool fans turned up at Anfield to pay homage to Jamie Carragher’s 14 years at the club and saw the veteran defender score at both ends as well as Michael Owen wear the Liverpool shirt again.
Luis Garcia rolled back the clock with the Liverpool opener – a fine curling shot from the edge of the box. And just before the break Jamie Carragher scored from the penalty spot after Michael Owen had won a penalty.
After the break Jamie Carragher scored a surprise penalty for the Everton XI past new Liverpool signing Brad Jones and then left the field to a rapturous reception. Further goals were added by Joe Cole, who improved on his recent misfortune at Anfield, and Liverpool reserve team player Nathan Eccleston.
After the game Carragher explained his goal for the Toffees: “I was an Everton fan as a kid and I always dreamed of scoring against Liverpool.”
