VIDEO: Torres at the double as Liverpool sink Sunderland; Burnley slip closer to the drop after Blackburn loss

Liverpool 3 – Sunderland 0 (Premier League, March 28, 2010) (MOTD highlights here.) Fernando Torres needed less than three minutes to break the deadlock with Sunderland, the Spaniard picked up the ball in a wide left position, jinked his way inwards before curling a stunner past Gordon for his sixth goal in four matches. A brilliant performance from Liverpool was rewarded with a second in the 32nd minute, a Gerrard corner fell to Glen Johnson on the edge of the box and the full-back’s drive deflected off Turner and into the near post. Fernando Torres struck the post in the 42nd minute, while the cameras caught legends Rush and Thommo on the edges of their seats as the chance came and went. The Reds killed the game on the hour when, in a crowded penalty area, Fernando Torres wrong-footed the entire Sunderland defence before calmly slotting the ball into an empty goal.
