Stoke 1 – Liverpool 1 (Premier League, January 16, 2010) (MOTD highlights here.) After 57 goalless minutes at the Britannia (first half highlights here), Sotirios Kyrgiakos (who was having a fine game at the back) became the unlikely Anfield hero in the absence of Gerrard and Torres as the Greek bundled home an Aurelio free-kick after Sorenson ballsed-up his attempt at reaching the ball. But Liverpool’s poor form/bad luck/loser complex continued in the 88th minute as Robert Huth equalised from a corner after the Potters had out-muscled the Reds in their own box.
Tottenham 0 – Hull 0 (Premier League, January 16, 2010) (MOTD highlights here.) Spurs boss Harry Redknapp endured a frustrating 500th game as a Premier League manager after heroics from Boaz Myhill earned Hull City a 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane. Myhill pulled off a string of fine saves to deny Spurs, who equalled their club record of five consecutive clean sheets in the Premier League but will be disappointed not to have found a way past Hull’s goalkeeper.
Wolves 0 – Wigan 2 (Premier League, January 16, 2010) (MOTD highlights here.) Roberto Martinez’s side missed a first half penalty when Marcus Hahnemann saved Hugo Rodallega’s effort after Wolves defender Richard Stearman was sent off for bringing down McCarthy. But Scottish teenager James McCarthy marked his first Premier League start with a goal on the hour. Wigan were also reduced to 10 men when Hendry Thomas was sent off for two bookings but Charles N’Zogbia put the result beyond doubt late on with the Latics second.
Exeter 2 – Leeds 0 (League One, January 16, 2010) The Grecians caught the Whites’ defence napping as early as the fourth minute when Ryan Harley headed past Casper Ankergren. Harley made sure his side wrapped up all three points though, the midfielder bagging a memorable brace with a 25-yard shot into the top corner.
