VIDEO: Rooney hits Hull for four as Manchester United go top; Beckford at the double to secure Leeds a FA Cup replay with Spurs; Brum win at Everton

Manchester United 4 – Hull 0 (Premier League, January 23, 2010) (Longer highlights here.) Manchester United laid down their plan to reclaim top spot by beating Hull early on, a fierce 20-yard effort from Scholes was only parried by Myhill and Wayne Rooney was on hand to score his 16th goal of the season. (First half highlights here.) Hull battled after going behind and had the better for much of the second half, but from a Nani free-kick that crashed against the bar, Wayne Rooney eventually whacked in number two. United then chalked up their third, Wayne Rooney heading in his hat-trick goal from a Nani cross from the right. Rooney claimed his third goal in nine minutes and fourth of the match after being played through by Berbatov, the brilliant striker controlling the ball with three defenders hovering before firing low into the near post.

Tottenham 2 – Leeds 2 (FA Cup 4th round, January 23, 2010) (Longer highlights here.) Jermain Defoe fluffed an early penalty while Jermaine Beckford forced Gomes into a fine stop with a half volley, but it was Spurs who netted first in the 41st minute as Peter Crouch swept home a rebound following Krancjar’s shot. The Whites silenced White Hart Lane at the start of the second half when hitman Jermaine Beckford (who else!) managed to scoop his shot past Gomes while surrounded by Spurs defenders following a corner. Spurs struggled to look threatening after Leeds scored, forcing Redknapp to introduce Keane and Roman Pavlyuchenko from the bench, and the forgotten Russian reminder the home fans who he is slotting in Spurs’ second in the 74th. In the fifth minute of injury-time, Dawson went to ground on Jermaine Beckford and the Leeds striker dusted himself down and beat Gomes to secure a replay at Elland Road.

Everton 1 – Birmingham 2 (FA Cup 4th round, January 23, 2010) (Longer highlights here.) In-form Birmingham took the lead at Everton when Christian Benitez headed Keith Fahey’s cross past Tim Howard from inside the six-yard box. The Midlanders went 2-up five minutes from the break when a low cross from theright fell into the path on the onrushing Barry Ferguson and the midfielder coolly slotted the ball into the far corner. The Toffees pulled themselves back into the match 10 minutes after the restart when a controlled attack from the hosts ended with Leon Osman curling home a beauty.
