The Football League returns: Barnsley rally to draw with Wednesday; Derby down plucky Posh; Beckford brace leads Leeds

Sheffield Wednesday 2 – Barnsley 2 (Championship, August 8, 2009) Wednesday held a two-goal at the break with goals Jermaine Johnson and Michael Gray. Tykes teenager Jacob Butterfield buried a low drive, his first goal for the visitors, to pull one back, and Jon Macken struck a 75th minute equaliser, chasing down Kayode Odejayi’s flick-on from a free kick, to earn Barnsley a point.

Derby 2 – Peterborough 1 (Championship, August 8, 2009) Miles Addison put the Ram into a fourth minute lead. The Posh looked to have claimed a point when Shaun Batt equalised the penalty spot six minutes from time. But a poor goalkeeping error from Joe Lewis, who flapped at Kris Common’s corner, allowed Gary Teale to poke home the winner. (Eye-witness footage only)

Leeds 2 – Exeter 1 (League 1, August 8, 2009) Jermaine Beckford put Leeds ahead after just 13 minutes and Exeter’s task got that much harder after Barry Corr was sent off for swinging a stray elbow. Exeter still managed to level through Alex Russell’s exquisite free-kick, only for Beckford to net the winner two minutes from time.

Carlisle 1 – Brentford 3 (League One, August 8, 2009)
