Shinji Kagawa opens his Manchester United account with the winner against Shanghai Shenhua

Shanghai Shenhua 0 – Manchester United 1 (Pre-season friendly, July 25, 2012) (Alternative highlights) New signing Nick Powell had a great chance to open his Red Devils account when he broke Shanghai’s offside trap in the 22nd minute, but the striker dragged his shot wide. Three minutes before the break it was the hosts’ turn to miss a good opportunity as Anders Linegaard turned aside Joel Griffiths’ shot when the Aussie was clean through on goal. Early in the second half Anderson just missed the target with a low shot, while soon after Kagawa set up Federico Macheda but the Italian could only fire straight at the keeper. In the 61st it was Shinji Kagawa’s turn to shoot on target, and Bebe also hit-and-missed following two chest passes from Kagawa and Chicharito. In the 68th minute United finally made the breakthrough as Shinji Kagawa, left with all the time in the world, smashed in a close range shot. United almost doubled tehir lead in the 77th but Paul Scholes bounced a header over the bar, and Bebe was next to test the keeper with a 40-yard piledriver.
