Newcastle 2 – Manchester City 2 (Premier League, October 20, 2008) In the thirteenth minute, Habib Beye (did he touch the ball?) was shown the red card for a foul on Robinho who was inside the box and through on goal, the Brazilian stepped up to take the resulting penalty to put City one-up. But Newcastle showed real resilience to hit back just before the break with Shola Ameobi finishing from close range after the ball had taken a number of deflections. Even though City dominated possession in the second-half, a comedy own goal from Richard Dunne put the Toon in the lead just after the hour mark (a great finish from the Irishman). With four minutes remaining Stephen Ireland fired in the equaliser after Robinho had played him in.
Leeds 2 – Leyton Orient 1 (League One, October 21, 2008) Jermaine Beckford missed an early penalty and they were punished when they fell behind to a Dean Morgan goal. But Leeds were level minutes later with an own-goal by Stephen Purches, and they quickly found a second through Becchio’s header.
