Cologne 1 – Arsenal 2: Gervinho brace followed by Jenkinson horror own goal

Cologne 1 – Arsenal 2 (Friendly, July 23, 2011) (Alternative highlights.) In his first game for Arsenal, after only seven minutes, Gervinho opened the scoring for the Gunners, chipping home after a Jack Wilshere through pass. Nine minutes later and the new Arsenal striker had another one, suggesting Arsene Wenger may have secured another bargain from Ligue 1, this time Gervinho finishing off a precise cross from Theo Walcott. Just before the break Cologne were handed a lifeline thanks to an absolute horror show of an own goal from Carl Jenkinson. (First half highlights)

Early in the second half, in which Arsenal had made many changes, there was handbags between Squillaci and Podolski. There was also bad news for the Gunners late on with Conor Henderson picking up what looks like a serious injury.
