Blackpool edge Nottingham Forest in the Championship play-offs; Leeds seal Championship promotion; Exeter beat the drop

Blackpool 2 – Nottingham Forest 1 (Championship play-offs first-leg, May 8, 2010) Forest struck first against Blackpool with a brilliant goal out-of-nothing form midfielder Chris Cohen, the number 15 curling a stunner with the outside of his left boot that arch gloriously into the top corner. The Tangerines were only behind for 12 minutes before Keith Southern swept the hosts level from close range. Blackpool turned the match on its head early in the second half, DJ Campbell was brought down in the box and Charlie Adam stepped up to send Lee Camp the wrong way from the spot.

The post match interview with Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies is on this video.

Leeds 2 – Bristol Rovers 1 (League One, May 8, 2010) Leeds came from a goal down and a man down to beat Bristol Rovers and clinch promotion to the Championship. It all started to look ominous for Leeds when Max Gradel was sent off for stamping on Daniel Jones amid chaotic scenes. Jones and Jo Kuffour set up Darryl Duffy to shoot Rovers ahead at the start of the second half. Jonathan Howson curled a fine equaliser before Jermaine Beckford’s 31st goal of the season clinched a famous win.

Simon Grayson was drenched by his own players during his post-match interview which can be seen here.

Exeter 2 – Huddersfield 1 (League One, May 8, 2010) Huddersfield took a second minute with a goal from Gary Robert, before Matt Taylor headed home Ryan Harley’s cross to put relegation-threatened Exeter level against Terriers after 22 minutes. Ryan Harley proved to be the host’s saviour eight minutes from time bagging the goal that kept Exeter up and sent Gillingham down, the midfielder finding the bottom corner of the net from outside the area and sent the St. James’ Park crowd bananas.
