Chelsea suffocate Barcelona in the Nou Camp

Barcelona 0 – Chelsea 0 (Champions League semi-final first-leg, April 28, 2009) (Longer highlights here and ITV’s extended highlights here.) Guus Hiddink’s Chelsea side stifled Barcelona during the first half (highlights here) at the Nou Camp, Drogba went the closest after a Marquez error with Valdes saving well. (This video shows Chelsea defending in numbers and Drogba’s chance.) Barca continued to dominate in the second half but the side in yellow defended resolutely in front of a solid Petr Cech with Eto’o and substitue Krkic spurning the best chances for the home side.

Aurora 1 – Univ. de Chile 2 (Copa Libertadores, April 28, 2009) All three goals came from set-pieces, Marco Estrada put the Chilean side ahead with a fine free-kick, Derlis Paredes equalised sis minutes later but a late header from Gonzalez gave the away side the victory.

San Lorenzo 2 – Universitario Peru 0 (Copa Libertadores, April 28, 2009) Diego Simeone’s side wrapped up an easy win with goals on 21 and 24 from a Calheira og and Alejandro Daro Gomez.

Gremio 3 – Chico FC 0 (Copa Libertadores, April 28, 2009) Williamis Souza scored an early brace for the Brazilian side, the first was a quality strike with the outside of the foot. Leo got the third just before the half-hour mark.
