Inter Milan have appointed their former defender Cristian Chivu to replace Simone Inzaghi as manager.

Chivu only took charge at Parma in February but has moved to his old club after Inzaghi left following the Italian side’s 5-0 Champions League final loss to Paris St Germain.

The Romania international played as a defender for Inter for seven years and was part of Jose Mourinho’s treble-winning side in 2010.

Chivu, who has signed a contract until 2027, won three league titles during seven years as an Inter player.

He was a youth team coach at Inter before taking his first job at Parma and steering them to safety in Serie A.

Inter begin their Club World Cup campaign against Mexico’s Monterrey on June 17 in Los Angeles.

Inzaghi has joined Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.
