PAOK vs Chelsea match preview

After just missing out on Champions League qualification, PAOK have dropped into the Europa League.

They were eliminated from Europe’s biggest competition after losing over two legs to SL Benfica.

Meanwhile, PAOK have made a good start to their league campaign taking seven points from a possible nine.

Răzvan Lucescu’s side were in action on Saturday defeating OFI Crete 3-1 away from home.

The Greek side now face a tough task taking on one of the tournament’s favourites in Chelsea.

Solid start under Sarri

The Blues have enjoyed their start to life under Maurizio Sarri currently sat joint top in the Premier League.

Chelsea have so far recorded wins over Huddersfield Town, Arsenal, Newcastle United, Bournemouth and Cardiff City.

The West London club were also in action on Saturday comfortably seeing off Cardiff 4-1 with Eden Hazard netting a hat-trick.

Hazard hitting new heights under Sarri

Being one of the Premier League’s most naturally gifted players, Eden Hazard’s form is sure to have a profound effect on Chelsea’s ability to win trophies this season.

Therefore, one of Maurizio Sarri’s biggest tasks will be on helping Hazard to hit the heights that he is so evidently capable of at Stamford Bridge.

The Italian has challenged the Belgian to score ’30-40 goals’ this season following his impressive start to the new campaign.

The 27-year-old has already been directly involved in seven goals in five appearances and claimed two consecutive Man of the Match awards.

On Saturday, the forward netted just his second hat-trick for the Blues; a feat the club’s supporters will be hoping to see on a more regular basis.

Now, the challenge for Hazard is on maintaining this scintillating form across the course of the season.

Last season we watched Mohammed Salah take the Premier League but storm and with his abundance of talent now is the time for Hazard to do the same.

Chelsea have decided to rest Hazard for this game with a view to the West Ham away match on Sunday.

Aleksandar Prijović has returned to training ahead of PAOK’s clash with Chelsea.

The striker is the Greek club’s top scorer this season with five goals in eight appearances.

Prijović remains a doubt but is PAOK’s only injury or suspension concern.

Cesc Fabregas, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Emerson Palmieri and Mateo Kovacic are all doubts for the trip to Greece.

Eden Hazard will be rested.

Sarri has suggested that Alvaro Morata will start on Thursday:

“Yesterday I thought Giroud was more suitable for this match and Morata more suitable for the other.”

The Italian has also hinted that Loftus-Cheek may feature if he recovers from injury in time:

“Maybe it’s an opportunity I can give him a chance.”
