Fresh off opening day defeats, both Sassuolo and Lecce will be eyeing a turnaround result when they face off this weekend.

An eventual stalemate, though, seems very much within the realms of possibility.

Whilst it is hosts Sassuolo who will head into proceedings as favourites, the manner of the two clubs’ respective losses on opening day is worth noting.

Whilst Sassuolo were dispatched of with ease by Juventus, Lecce came within seconds of snatching a share of the spoils against Inter Milan, only for a 95th-minute Denzel Dumfries effort to break the hearts of the promoted outfit.

Shifting attentions towards potential goalscorers on Saturday, Domenico Berardi to open the scoring is available at very reasonable odds of +550.

Sassuolo’s attacking talisman enjoyed a campaign to remember last time out, racking up 15 goals, to go along with 14 assists.

Expected to continue as spot-kick taker in Emilia-Romagna over the course of the season, Berardi opening his account for the term this weekend looks a strong possibility.

Match preview

Sassuolo and Lecce are set to go head to head in this Serie A encounter on Saturday evening.

As alluded to above, both sides will enter proceedings with sights set on their first points haul of the campaign, after slipping to respective defeats on the opening weekend in Italy’s top flight.

Hosts Sassuolo are the overwhelming favourites with the bookies, capable of putting almost any side to the sword when firing on all cylinders at the Mapei Stadium.

Lecce, though, should not be counted out, having marked their return to Serie A courtesy of champion status in 2021/22, and fresh off a stout display on opening day.

Turning attentions towards the personnel front, Sassuolo boss Alessio Dionisi will be unable to call on the talents of key pair Hamed Traore (Metatarsal) and Mert Muldur (ankle) this weekend.

Summer arrivals Matheus Henrique and Kristian Thorstvedt, though, are expected to continue in midfield.

At Lecce, meanwhile, Alessandro Tuia and Kastriot Dermaku are primed to miss out once more, but there could be a boost in defence, with Mert Cetin inching towards a return to action.
