These two have only ever met once before, drawing 1-1 in a friendly in Tórshavn 29 years ago. Against teams currently in League C or D, Turkey have won 15 of their last 18 competitive matches, last losing such a game in October 2010.

Turkey to win and both teams to score NO is 4/6.

Turkey to win and over 2.5 goals is 8/15.

Turkey to win, over 2.5 goals and both teams to score NO is 15/8.

Kerem Aktürkoğlu has scored three international goals, all coming in 2021. He is 5/1 to break the deadlock and 10/11 to net anytime.

Match preview

After their ignominious relegation two years ago, Turkey are targeting an immediate return to League B.

Back in 2020, the Crescent-Stars won just one of their six Nations League fixtures, beating Russia in İstanbul, so were relegated to the third-tier.

Overall, Turkey have won just two of ten outings in this competition but, now operating at a lower level, this ratio should vastly improve.

Stefan Kuntz took over as Head Coach last year and had an immediate impact, amassing ten points from 12 World Cup qualifiers.

However, his team were then eliminated in the play-off semi-final by Portugal, going down 3-1 at Estádio do Dragão back in March.

So now, Turkey are looking for promotion back to the second-tier, hoping to build some momentum ahead of Euro 2024 qualifying.

As for Faroe Islands, they too are featuring in League C for the first time ever, but are far more delighted to be here.

Two years ago, Håkan Ericson's side topped their group in the bottom tier unbeaten, thereby gaining promotion to this level.

This is, by far, the Faroe Islands' biggest-ever achievement, and their rewards is some glamours fixtures, none more so than this opener.

Their chances of a result in İstanbul seem slim, given that the Faroes' only competitive away wins since 2001 came in Andorra, Latvia and Greece.

Anything other than a routine home win at Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadyumu would be a huge surprise.

Turkey team news

Burak Yılmaz retired after March's play-off defeat, while other experienced faces Ozan Tufan, Okay Yokuşlu and Kenan Karaman have all not been called up.

With the former, Hakan Çalhanoğlu is the new captain and he'll start, alongside Kerem Aktürkoğlu and Cengiz Ünder in attacking areas.

Enes Ünal scored 16 goals in La Liga this season for Getafe, only four men netted more, so he could lead the line.

Çağlar Söyüncü and Merih Demiral are the first-choice centre-back partnership, chosen over Ozan Kabak.

Faroe Islands team news

Klæmint Olsen of NSÍ Runavík is the Faroes' main goal threat having scored ten times for his country, three of which came in this competition.

Goalkeeper Gunnar Nielsen has 64 caps to his name, but won't add to those here with Teitur Gestsson having displaced the veteran.
