Algeria lift the AFCON trophy in 2019

IR Iran vs Algeria

At long, long last, IR Iran have an international fixture, their first since World Cup qualification was secured back in March.

This month, the Lions of Persia were scheduled to face Canada in Vancouver and Uruguay in Montevideo, two great games in prospect.

However, both were cancelled due to geo-political reasons, meaning the FFIRI have been scrambling around trying to find someone to play.

Eventually, Algeria have agreed to take part in this hastily-arranged friendly in Qatar, meaning the Iranian players are surely raring to go.

Later this year, Iran will feature at a sixth World Cup, including qualifying for three in succession.

They'll face England, Wales and then the United States with Dragan Skočić's team looking to get past the group stages for the very first time.

Algeria meanwhile, despite win the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019 and the FIFA Arab Cup last year, won't be going to the World Cup.

The Desert Foxes were beaten by Cameroon in Match's play-offs, conceding a 124th minute goal which saw them bow out.

Earlier this month, Djamel Belmadi's side have won a pair of AFCON 2023 qualifiers, beating both Uganda and Tanzania 2-0.

In this one at Suheim bin Hamad Stadium, who will come out on top?
