Scotland vs Armenia betting tips: UEFA Nations League preview, predictions and odds

Ryan Fraser

Scotland and Armenia will meet for the very first time. The Tartan Army are unbeaten at home in the Nations League, winning four of five matches.

Both teams to score is 6/4.

Scotland to win and both teams to score is 3/1.

Ché Adams is 15/4 to break the deadlock and 5/4 to add to his four Scotland goals.

Match preview

A week on from seeing their World Cup dreams go up in flames, can Scotland bounce back with the road to Euro 2024 starting here.

Last Wednesday night, the Dark Blues simply put in an underwhelming display and paid the ultimate price.

They were ousted 3-1 in the World Cup play-off semi-finals by Ukraine, with Callum McGregor's strike only momentarily providing hope.

Before this, the Tartan Army had celebrated six successive competitive victories, their best run since 1930.

But, having ended their 23-year wait for a major tournament appearance last summer, Scotland must be fully focussed on getting to Germany 2024.

If they top this Nations League group, they'll not only gain promotion to League A but will secure a play-off place, the route that took them to Euro 2020.

Ahead of this fixture, the Tartan Army have certainly enjoyed the Nations League to date, winning six of ten matches, losing just three.

So, in the face of last midweek's bitter disappointment, can Steve Clarke's team rediscover that winning feeling?

In contrast, Armenia make the long 2,400+ mile journey west buoyant and full of confidence.

On Saturday, they began their campaign by claiming a famous scalp at Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium.

Eduard Spertsyan's sumptuous long-range strike just 15 minutes from time enough to defeat Republic of Ireland in Yerevan.

This means the Mountaineers have now won seven of 13 Nations League fixtures, achieving back-to-back promptions to date.

Before this win over Ireland though, Joaquín Caparrós' team were actually winless in seven, losing four of these matches.

Nevertheless, Armenia are now looking to keep the party going by securing another momentous victory.

Will Armenia bust Scotland's bubble further at Hampden?

Scotland team news

Kieran Tierney's injury, sustained during the March friendlies, is rightly sighted as a key reason behind Scotland's abject defeat to Ukraine.

Without him, Liam Cooper could continue in the back three, alongside Grant Hanley and Scott McTominay, although Jack Hendry could return.

In goal, there's no indication that 39 year old Craig Gordon plans to retire from international football, meaning he's the number one for the foreseeable future.

At right-wing back, Aaron Hickey only made his senior debut in March but will start a fourth successive game.

That's because Nathan Patterson isn't fit, while Hickey will be chosen over Stephen O'Donnell.

Callum McGregor, Billy Gilmour and John McGinn will continue in midfield; all 11 of McGinn's competitive goals have come at Hampden.

In attack though, Lyndon Dykes has been forced to withdraw from the squad due to injury.

So, Ché Adams will be the lone front-man with Ryan Christie in-behind.

Armenia team news

Armenia's poster boy and record goalscorer Henrikh Mkhitaryan hung up his international boots at the back end of last year.

Columbus Crew's Lucas Zelarayán, who they recruited to replace him, missed the Ireland win injured so is a major doubt.

Thirdly, Aleksandr Karapetyan, who has scored six goals for his country, has not been called up.

So, goals should be hard to come-by, but Eduard Spertsyan rubbished those concerns by scoring a stunning winner at the weekend.

He'll continue as part of a front three also featuring Tigran Barseghyan and Vahan Bichakhchyan.

Centre-back Arman Hovhannisyan went off injured on Saturday, while fellow defender Hayk Ishkhanyan is already sidelined.

So, Styopa Mkrtchyan could come into a back five, captained by Varazdat Haroyan of La Liga side Cádiz.
