New England Patriots vs Philadelphia Eagles 2018 Super Bowl preview

In what has become commonplace over the last decade and a half, the New England Patriots find themselves in the championship game.

Mastermind Head Coach Bill Belichick and golden boy Quarterback Tom Brady are going to their 8th Super Bowl (5 wins) since Brady took over the quarterback role midway through the ’01 season.

Their opponent, the Philadelphia Eagles were the best team in football through most of the year, and are looking to make up for their last Super Bowl appearance in 2005 when they lost to, you guessed it – Brady and Belicheck.

If you ask Vegas and the oddsmakers Brady, Belicheck and co. are currently 5.5 point favourites to win.

We at 101 Great Goals wholeheartedly agree!

Lets preview some of the main football storylines leading into Sunday.

Can Tom Brady overcome the Philly D?

The Patriots walked through the regular season with a stellar 13-3 record, but they have yet to face a defence as dynamic as Philadelphia.

The recipe to beat Tom Bradt has always centred around a defence’s ability to rush him and force him to move the ball quickly. To do this effectively it needs to be done with as little personnel as possible.

The Philadelphia Eagles boast the best front 4 in football, and led by stalwart Fletcher Cox.

If Philadelphia can put pressure on Brady with limited players, it will free up the rest of the defence in coverage and force Brady to have to make the perfect pass.

Can backup Eagles QB Nick Foles play a mistake free game?

In week 13, Eagles QB, and odds-on-MVP-favourite Carson Wentz went down with a season ending MCL injury.

Since then QB Nick Foles has had his ups and downs. Last week, in the NFC championship against the Minnesota Vikings, Foles was brilliant.

If he can avoid turnovers and manage the game effectively, it will give Philadelphia a fighting chance, if not get ready for full Patriots annihilation.

How healthy is Rob Gronkowski?

Rob Gronkowski, who can best be described as the King of Frat-boys, is Tom Brady’s favourite target, and a nightmare for any team that faces him.

He is the key that  unlocks the Patriots’ ability to spread the field. He’s simply unstoppable when playing to his potential.

Yet his problem is staying on the field. Last week in the AFC championship, Gronk for knocked out of the game with a nasty hit that left him with a concussion.

Gronkowski has since said he’s “all ready to go” for Sunday.

If the Pats can use him to open the defence through the slot, Philly has no chance. But with a physical defence, look for Philly to try and hit him early to get him out of the game.

Tom Brady vs Time

Tom Brady makes David Beckham feel jealous. Chew on that.

The golden boy is quite something. He’s 40 and plans to play till 45.

He’s handsome as f***, married to supermodel Gisele, and is the winningest QB of all time and counting. The guy is also the definition of ‘clutch’.

This is a storyline because we are living through history that WILL NOT BE REPEATED AGAIN.

God bless you Tom, you beautiful man you!

New England Patriots vs Philadelphia Eagles: Favourites, Top tip, MVP, Prep Bets & Gatorade

Philadelphia Eagles are the outsiders for the Super Bowl at 5/3.

Back the New England Patriots at 1/2.

101 Great Goals predictions: Patriots to win & cover the spread.

Top Bet: Back Eagles RB Jay Ajayi to get over 81.5 receiving and rushing yards at 5/6

The Pats have problems with multifaceted running backs. The Jaguars gave them real issues in the AFC title game when they switched up from the hard running style of Leonard Fournette to the corner threat of Corey Grant. Jay Ajayi can do both and is a great pass catcher. Look for him to shine

MVP Banker: If the Pats win, Brady is the MVP. Period.

Tom Brady is 8/13 to be the Super Bowl MVP.

Prop Bets: Here is my suggestions for those of you having to convince someone who doesn’t like football to watch the game: prop betting.

Prop bets are awesome, they are completely random and a great way to spice up the festivities for those less interested in game play. Here are a few of our faves:

How long will it take for Pink to sing the National Anthem?

Over 2 min (-150)

Under 2 min (+110)

Anthems at such an event are usually theatrical and almost always go over 2 minutes (including 4 or the last 5 Super Bowls) but Pink is an Eagles fan and her dad is a war vet, so maybe she keeps it short and sweet.

Gatorade color?

What colour will the gatorade be that gets poured on the winning coach. Confused? Don’t be. Ask the youngest person in the room what their favourite colour is from the following and put a five on it.

Blue +250

Red +330

Yellow +350

Orange +350

Clear/Water +500

Purple +1000
