Kazakhstan vs Azerbaijan betting tips: UEFA Nations League preview, predictions and odds

Azerbaijan have only won two of ten meetings with Kazakhstan, losing their last two trips to Nur-Sultan. Kazakhstan have only won one of seven Nations League matches at home; Azerbaijan have only won two of six in this competition on the road.

Under 2.5 goals is 1/2.

Draw and under 2.5 goals is 5/2.

Ramil Şeydayev is 7/1 to break the deadlock and 3/1 to score anytime.

Match preview

After only surviving at this level by the skin of their teeth, Kazakhstan will be hoping for a more comfortable Nations League campaign this time round.

Two years ago, the Hawks finished bottom of their Nations League group, amassing just four points, with their only win coming in Lithuania.

This saw them enter the relegation play-outs which took place earlier this year, with Moldova their opponents.

Kazakhstan looked set to survive following a comeback 2-1 victory in the first leg in Chișinău; Serhiy Malyi on target with a header.

However, Moldova then won the return match 1-0 five days later, meaning a penalty shootout was required in Nur-Sultan.

Igor Shatsky proved to be the hero, saving two spot-kicks, as his side stayed in League C, but only just.

All of this is to say, having won just seven of their last 55 competitive games, Magomed Adiyev's team are likely to struggle again.

Azerbaijan are the other leading candidates for relegation in Group C3.

They too only won once in the group phase in 2020, but managed to see off Cyprus and cling onto survival.

Nevertheless, Gianni De Biasi's team come into this campaign winless in 12, only claiming victory once from 23 matches since November 2018.

So, who will claim three vital, and rare, points at Astana Arena?

Kazakhstan team news

With star man Baqtiiar Zainutdinov as well as Roman Murtazayev and Aleksey Shchyotkin all unavailable, Kazakhstan are going to struggle for goals.

The top scorer in the squad is holding midfielder Islambek Kuat with six; the rest of the squad have just 14 international goals between them.

Left-back Yan Vorogovsky is the only player not currently plying his trade in Russia of the Kazakh Premier League.

He spent the season on loan with RWD Molenbeek in Belgium's second-tier.

Azerbaijan team news

Ramil Şeydayev will lead the line for the visitors, looking to add to his seven international goals.

Emin Mahmudov, who scored an absolute rocket in Dublin last year, is another man to watch.
