Match preview

Will Georgia continue their impressive record in the UEFA Nations League?

Back in 2018, the Crusaders easily won promotion from League D, accumulating 16 points from six matches.

They actually scored the first-ever goal in the competition's history, Giorgi Chakvetadze breaking the deadlock in a 2-0 victory in Kazakhstan.

Then, two years ago, Georgia missed out on back-to-back promotions, ending up four points below group winners Armenia.

Nevertheless, they've only lost one of 12 matches in this competition to date, so are optimistic of achieving promotion this time round.

In fact, against teams currently in League C or D, Willy Sagnol's team have won ten of their last 16 matches, losing only twice.

This statistic includes no less than four victories against Gibraltar, a 100% record they're looking to extend in Tbilisi.

As for Gibraltar themselves, they enjoyed an historic promotion from League D back in 2020.

Julio César Ribas' side went through the campaign unbeaten, accumulating eight points from matches against Liechtenstein and San Marino.

Now, operating at third-tier level, their sole aim is to avoid being in the relegation play-outs and, ultimately, returning to the fourth division.

With North Macedonia and Bulgaria completing Group C4, Gibraltar are heavy favourites to finish bottom, while there's going to be a three-way fight for first.

Anything other than a comfortable home win at Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena would be a big surprise.

Georgia team news

21 year old Khvicha K'varatskhelia is Georgia's star man, looking to add to his five international goals.

He was on the books at Rubin Kazan but left following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, so has been playing for Dinamo Batumi.

Valeri Qazaishvili will also be a danger man; the third of his 11 goals for his country came against Gibraltar.

36 year old midfielder Jaba K'ank'ava won his 100th cap against Greece in October and retired from international football afterwards.

Gibraltar team news

Reece Styche and Tjay De Barr, formally and currently of Wycombe Wanderers, are Gibraltar's main attackers; both have three international goals.

The former scored twice during World Cup qualifying last year, which is impressive as his team only scored four times in total.

Having said that, it's goalkeeper Dayle Coleing who's likely to be far more busy.

Roy Chipolina could captain the side from defence having played in 57 of Gibraltar's 66 matches since gaining UEFA and FIFA membership.
