Viking vs Aberdeen: Recommended bets

Both teams to score. Although Viking are on a good run of form, clean sheets have been hard to come by. They’ve only managed one in their last seven matches.

Ryan Hedges to score. Hedges scored a hat-trick in the previous round and will be looking to add to his tally on Thursday.

Viking vs Aberdeen: Match preview

Norwegian side Viking FK host Aberdeen in the UEFA Europa League second qualifying round on Thursday night.

Viking have been drawn as the home side in the one-legged tie, which will be decided on the night.

Viking have a relatively decent European history, at least compared to many of the other sides in the current round – although they have not reached the group stage of the competition since 2005 (then known as the UEFA Cup).

In the past, Viking have recorded wins against Monaco, Austria Vienna, and Sporting. They even managed a draw against Barcelona in the 1992-93 Champions League group stage. Their most notable European victory, however, is undoubtedly their 4-2 win over Chelsea in 2002.

Viking finished 5th in the 2019 Norwegian Eliteserien. They are currently 8th in the table after 17 matches. Viking won 5-3 away to Kristiansund on Sautrday, with goals from Veton Berisha (2), Zymer Bytyqi (2), and Yildren Ibrahimaj.

Unlike Viking, Aberdeen entered qualification in the previous round. They eased past NSI Runavik of the Faroe Islands with a 6-0 win. Ryan Hedges scored a hat-trick while Lewis Ferguson, Curtis Main, and Jonathan Hayes also found the back of the net.

The Dons moved up to 4th in the table following thier 1-0 win over Kilmarnock on Saturday.

Aberdeen have been involved in Europa League qualifying in each of the last six seasons, but haven’t managed to reach the group stage in that time. Aberdeen won the UEFA Cup Winners Cup and UEFA Super Cup in 1983.

Viking team news vs Aberdeen

Viking are facing a goalkeeper crisis. First-choice goalkeeper Arlid Ostbo was injured in Saturday’s win, while second-choice Iven Austbo is already on the sidelines.

Englishman Michael Crowe is likely to start in goal. Crowe’s last competitive match came in January 2019 for Preston North End.

Viking have also recently lost left-back Adrian Pereira after he was sold to Greek side PAOK. Pereira had started every game for Viking this season before his move to Greece.

Aberdeen team news vs Viking

Former Watford defender Tommie Hoban should start for Aberdeen.

They also have Ryan Edmondson on loan from Leeds United, though he’s unlikely to be in the starting eleven.
