Tottenham Hotspur vs Wolfsberger: Match preview
Tottenham suffered yet another Premier League defeat on Sunday as they were beaten by West Ham United.
Mourinho’s side have now lost five of their last six matches as their top-four hopes continue to fade.
Spurs are now down in ninth and find themselves nine points off of fourth place.
Their best chance of qualifying for the Champions League may now rest on winning the Europa League.
They already have one foot in the last 16 following their 4-1 win in Hungary last week.
Wolfsberger have a mountain to climb even against a heavily rotated Spurs side.
The north London club have won all four of their home fixtures in the competition and winning 4-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is a very big ask.
Should Spurs reach the next round of the Europa League the likes of Manchester United, Leicester, AC Milan and Arsenal are all likely to await them.
Tottenham Hotspur team news vs Wolfsberger
Tottenham could be boosted by the return of Serge Aurier from injury against Wolfsberger.
The right-back has been struggling with a calf injury but he could feature on Wednesday.
Giovani Lo Celso is Spurs’ only other injury concern.
The Argentine has been missing since December 20 with a thigh injury.
He is expected to be available again at the start of next month.
Spurs fans will be hoping Gareth Bale is either used for both Wednesday and Sunday’s game against Burnley or just saved for the weekend’s Premier League fixture.
The Welshman helped fire Spurs into a 4-1 lead over Wolfsberger before producing a very impressive display off the bench against West Ham.
Mourinho will need a rejuvenated Bale as he looks to turn around the team’s fortunes and saving him for Sunday may well be the best option.
Wolfsberger team news vs Tottenham Hotspur
The Austrian side are set to once again be without midfielder Eliel Peretz.
The Argentine featured in all of Wolfsberger’s six group matches but has been ruled out for several weeks with a fractured metatarsal.
Although, Mario Leitgeb is now back in contention after only being fit enough to make the bench against Spurs.
Leitgeb also featured in all the group stage matches and his return will come as a nice boost for manager Ferdinand Feldhofer.
